José Delporte

Father José works among the Shuar Indians. This Indian tribe, who has lived undisturbed in isolation for centuries, is now confronted with the Western world. One of the undesirable issues with which the Indians come into contact is endemic Western diseases, for which they have not yet been able to build up resistance. Drug use was non-existent here but now also makes victims. AIDS is also becoming more common.

Father José mainly tries to improve living conditions. Multi-purpose halls are built in the villages where people can gather to look for solutions to the precarious situation in which they have to survive through meetings and conversations. The sick receive care in a small hospital and there is a place for teachers to stay.
